L-tyrosine gives your brain the raw material to make dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. Under stress, sleep loss, or heavy mental demand, these neurotransmitters can run low. Supplying extra tyrosine helps maintain focus and alertness when you need it most.
For best absorption, take it on an empty stomach. Time your dose for the morning or about 30 to 60 minutes before a demanding task.
Stay away from tyrosine if you take an MAOI. Because it can shift thyroid hormone output, anyone with a thyroid condition or on thyroid medication should check with a doctor first. People with PKU must avoid it. Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
