Nutmeg comes from the seed of the tree *Myristica fragrans*. People use it in tiny amounts for cooking or as a supplement. Intentional uses include easing mild indigestion, soothing occasional bloating, and encouraging relaxation before bed.
Most supplements are sold as a powder or liquid extract. A common serving is a pinch of powder stirred into warm tea.
**Caution:** Nutmeg contains myristicin. Eating several teaspoons at once, which is far above a normal pinch, can cause poisoning. Toxic reactions include nausea, hallucinations, and a racing heart. Do not take large doses or use it every day for a long stretch.
