This licorice root extract uses glycerin, not alcohol. The glycerin base is gentler on the stomach than alcohol tinctures. People take it to calm occasional heartburn or an upset stomach. The liquid mixes easily and is well tolerated.
Take 15 to 30 drops in water or tea up to three times each day. Taking it before meals can help with digestion.
Licorice contains glycyrrhizin. Regular or high doses can raise blood pressure and lower potassium. Do not use if you have high blood pressure, kidney disease, or are pregnant. The extract may interact with diuretics, corticosteroids, and blood pressure medications.
