Bile extract provides exogenous bile acids. People often take it after gallbladder removal, since the body can no longer store and release concentrated bile on demand. Taking it with fatty meals helps emulsify dietary fats, which reduces bloating and loose stools.
Take it right before or during a meal that contains fat. A common starting amount is 300 to 500 mg per meal.
Avoid it if you have a history of bile duct obstruction, liver disease, or inflammatory bowel conditions. Supplementing with bile acids can worsen these conditions.
