Arnica comes from the flowers of the Arnica montana plant. People use it in topical forms like gels, creams, and ointments to ease bruises, sprains, and muscle soreness. It helps calm inflammation and can relieve joint discomfort and aid recovery after hard exercise or minor injuries. Apply a thin layer to the sore spot two to three times a day, as needed.
Never swallow arnica. It is toxic when taken internally. Do not put it on broken, cut, or irritated skin. Stop using it right away if a rash or irritation shows up. If you are pregnant or take a blood thinner such as warfarin or aspirin, check with your doctor before you use arnica.
