Aloe vera extract comes from the inner leaf gel, concentrated and often standardized for acemannan and other polysaccharides. Unlike whole-leaf juice, this extract leaves out most of the laxative latex, so daily use is gentler on the gut.
People take it to soothe the gastrointestinal lining, ease occasional digestive discomfort, and promote healthy immune function. For best absorption, take capsules or liquid with a meal.
Watch for possible kidney irritation from leftover anthraquinones. High doses can cause a mild laxative effect. Avoid combining with diuretics, heart medications like digoxin, or blood thinners. Do not use during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or before surgery.
